We might want to improve our fitness over 50 but we don’t all want to join gyms, much preferring to exercise in the comfort and privacy of our own homes.
I have chosen a selection of some of my favourite fitness DVDs – they have not been developed specifically for women over 50, but they are DVDs that either I use myself…or have friends who do…and as we are all over 50 we think that these are the ones we like to share.
Callanetics

One of the originals..and still one of the best in my opinion. Callanetics. I am so pleased that this is available on DVD – my old VHS tape gave up the ghost many years ago. Not exciting …but it works. The slow movements created by Callan Pinckney really help to define and slim the body . It has certainly stood the test of time.
Fitsteps

I originally went to Fitsteps classes held by former Strictly dancer Ian Waite, but bought the DVD to continue at home. Great routines based on ballroom and latin moves. Good fun..and you feel as though you have exercised at the end of the session. Fun exercise to look forward to.
Davina: 5 Week Fit

Based on a series of 7 minute high intensity workouts brought into a programme designed to get results in 5 weeks. Easy to follow with ‘bonus’ moves if you have a little more time….or motivation!
Barbara Currie 7 Secrets of Yoga

Barbara has also been generous in sharing some of her favourite yoga exercises with us in the past. In addition to sharing her 7 ‘secrets’ there is a choice of two 10-minute miracles (beginners and advanced) recommended to start the day, and a series of six short sequences designed to work either as a sequence a day, or together in one full session.
Pilates Body Control with Lynne Robinson

A great introduction to pilates. The moves are explained extremely well and the overall DVD ‘gentle’.
Lorraine Kelly: Living to the Max

We have witnessed Lorraine transform her figure , and now she is sharing her workout ‘Living to the Max’ based on her class with her own fitness instructor. The class is broken down into three 20 minute workouts – Cardio Max, Waistline Max Burn, Squat To The Max plus the Max Warm Up and Cool Down. High energy ‘feel good’ workout
10 minute Natural Bodylift with Danielle Collins

Danielle is a long term favourite with Fab after Fifty readers having shared her exercises to tone our arms! Her DVD is split into easy to follow 10 minute segments focussing on different parts of the body. Gentle but effective.
…
