What to wear at the races

Going to the races has become a hugely popular form of sporting entertainment over the years, and 2016 promises to be another very exciting year for fans of this sport. Those who are attending events such as the Cheltenham Festival or Royal Ascot can look forward to the fun, entertainment, thrill and vibrant atmosphere that can always be found at the racecourse.

One thing to bear in mind is that with today’s major horseracing events the day is very often about more than just the races themselves. Some of these events have become as much about fashion as racing and on days such as Ladies’ Day everyone is eager to dress up to the nines and really make their mark at the races.

Tips on choosing what to wear

With so many different racing events coming up over the course of 2016, there will be plenty of options available for those who want to head to the races. Of course, if you cannot attend for any reason you can still enjoy the excitement of these events on TV. For instance, after the excitement of Christmas is over you can get together with friends and family members and enjoy indulging in boxing day bets and turkey sandwiches as you unwind after the excitement of Christmas Day. You can head to sites such as Betway to get information, odds and even place bets from the comfort and warmth of your home so you won’t even have to battle the Boxing Day sale crowds in order to get to the bookies!

If you attending the races in person, there are a number of factors that you should consider in order to ensure you dress appropriately. This includes:

Any specific dress code: Make sure you take the time to check whether there is a specific dress code in place depending on the race and course you are attending. For instance, Royal Ascot does have a strict dress code that you have to adhere to..especially if you intend to be in the Royal Enclosure, do shoulders need to be covered, are fascinators allowed as opposed to traditional hats. so do your research so that you can then select the most suitable outfit or invest in something that matches the dress code that is in place.

The weather: Racing events take place over the course of the whole year, so another thing you will need to consider is the weather. If you are heading to an event early on in the year when it is still cold, make sure you have a smart jacket or coat that you can wear over your outfit otherwise you could be in for a day of discomfort as you brave the cold temperatures at the track!  If the weather is bad you can avoid having to queue up to place bets by simply using sites like Coral to place bets using your smartphone or tablet so make sure you take your smart device along as well.

Past races: It is always worth doing a little research into fashion at the races from previous years, as this will enable you to view pictures and information relating to what people tend to wear to that particular race. This can provide you with inspiration when it comes to your outfit as well as ensuring that you wear something that will blend in nicely with what others are wearing.

Do bear in mind that a day at the race is a very exciting day but can also be a long day where you are on your feet for hours on end. With that in mind, make sure you choose footwear that is not only glamorous and complements your outfit but is also practical and won’t cause you discomfort and problems on the day.If the ground is likely to be soft and you are planning on wandering around the venue as opposed to staying seated in the stands, then think about shoes…those stilettos might look fabulous with your outfit but will sink into the ground once you are out on the grassy areas.
